Alright, here it is. My first post as part of the Fangirl Challenge I posted yesterday. This post is part 1 of my television shows post. Here I will talk about 5 television shows I love. This part focuses solely on live action television and not animated shows (that's a separate post). I'll put each show behind a separate cut.
I should mention that these are in no particular order.

This show is my current major fandom and I'm honestly surprised I never got into it earlier. My ex-husband is a huge Trek fan but it wasn't until we separated that I really fell in love with Star Trek and The Next Generation in general. This show really brought me back into fandom life and has also brought me a lot of joy in a time where I desperately needed it. I've been through a lot since last September and one of the few bright spots in my life has been Star Trek.
I think I've really latched on to The Next Generation as I find it has a wonderfully optimistic view of the future. In a time where everything in my life was spiraling downwards, it gave me hope that if I hung on through all this, things could get better.
I love how the whole senior crew of the Enterprise is kind of a big weird family. They're all different but they all appreciate and try to understand everyone's differences. I've also watched a bunch of panels from conventions with the actors and they really seem to feel like they're sort of a family IRL so it's really nice to see.
I also love how the moral issues the show discusses are still relevant and poignant over 30 years later. I've also never been involved in a fandom that's simultaneously this old yet still active. There's so much fanlore and so many fanworks to explore and I have been having the time of my life exploring this fandom.

When I was a teenager, I was obsessed with police procedurals, especially the CSI series. NY happened to be my absolute favourite. I've loved New York City ever since I visited on a school band trip in grade 9 and I honestly felt out of the three shows, it had the best balance between the police aspects and the science aspects, as well as having a really great focus on the characters.
This was the first fandom I was really active in and used to be really active on the Talk CSI forums. I made a lot of great fandom friends on there and I still think about them from time to time. This show had my very first OTP (who I will be talking about on my pairing post) and it was the first show where I started looking more at the actors as well and seeing what other things they did.
I've actually re-watched episodes of this recently as I discovered that Discovery Channel (of all things) here in Canada plays a couple episodes every weekday. It's been really cool re-watching the episodes of this show that I loved so much and finding I still enjoy it, despite having not watched the show in almost a decade.
The only regrets I have with this show is that I didn't really give it a chance after season 6 when my favourite character was written off. I have a lot of issues with how that was handled, but I still think I'd like to try and watch seasons 7 through 9 at some point.

This is one of the few current shows I've really gotten into (although I still have to watch season 3). My ex-husband and I binge watched the first two seasons in a week and absolutely loved it. Neither of us are really into the horror genre but there was something about this show that really hit the mark for us. For me, I think it's that there's a great cast of characters and the setting. I love how much detail they put into making the series really feel like its set in the 80s.
I've also always been partial to the Stephen King style thriller with good storytelling, which this show embodies to a T. It's also got a healthy dose of some sci-fi elements and some straight up nerdiness which endears it even more to me.
I've also gained a whole new respect for Winona Ryder watching this show. If it wasn't in the opening credits, I would've had no clue she was Joyce Byers. Also, the actors who play the kids are amazing and do such a great job bringing their characters to life.
I really do have to watch season 3...

I owe my falling into this show due to repeats of it airing on I think the W Network here in Canada. I'd heard about it a bit before and decided to watch it, which was an excellent decision. What can I say? I love my crime shows, and this one had the added bonus of being about a RCMP officer.
Benton Fraser is the living embodiment of every Canadian stereotype and I love every second of it. I arrived at this fandom way too late for the Ray Wars, and I try to avoid that part like the plague. They both have their merits in my opinion.
Also, Diefenbaker is the best boy. Who doesn't want a snow white wolf companion who literally went deaf saving you from frozen waters?
It's been awhile since I've watched this show, but I loved watching the re-runs when they were on and I might have to pick this one up again at some point.

I am counting a miniseries as a TV show because I can do what I want :P Either way, I was introduced to this amazing 6 hour masterpiece in high school by one of my favourite teachers who ran a Jane Austen book club. The very first book that I read with the club was Pride and Prejudice and after we read it, we had an in-school field trip where we took a day and watched this from beginning to end.
I have not seen the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice, and I have heard a lot of praise for it, but I worry it will not live up to this. The actors embody the characters so well from neurotic Mrs. Bennet, to sweet mild mannered Jane to the slimy Mr. Collins. I honestly couldn't script a better adaptation to a novel if I tried.
The novel combined with this miniseries sealed my love for all things Jane Austen, and while Pride and Prejudice is not my favourite of her novels, I still hold it dear to my heart.
I should mention that these are in no particular order.
