I saw that [community profile] thefridayfive‘s questions today were all music related so I felt compelled to answer them.

1. What is the last song/bit of music you heard?

I’m at work at the and the radio station I picked today is playing Every Little Kiss by Bruce Hornsby. I like the song, although i’m very partial to the cover by Sara Evans as well.

2. What is the song you can't get enough of right now?

I’m kind of in between song obsessions at the moment. According to Spotify, my top song on repeat right now is Alone by Heart, which is a long time favourite.

3. What song/band did you just discover and think are great?

A friend made me a playlist recently and somehow, despite being a big classic rock fan, I had never really listened to Judas Priest before. They are very much my jam though.

4. Do you listen to the same song over and over on repeat? Why?

I am very much guilty of that. I think part of it is a neurodivergent thing. Sometimes I’ll do it if i’m writing something inspired by that song specifically.

5. Do you make music, or do you want to?

I don’t really make music but I do enjoy going out to karaoke and singing. I’ve thought about making music before but honestly, i’m more content singing just for fun.

It has been quite some time since I’ve actually posted something here and I’ve kind of missed this platform. I’ve decided to answer the Friday Five for today.

1. Have you ever asked someone for their autograph?

I have a number of times. When I was a kid, we used to go to a lot of the local fairs and see some of the musical acts performing, usually Canadian country singers, and got a few of their autographs. As well, when I was older, I got a fair number of hockey player autographs when the All-Star game was here. While he never played for my favourite team, my personal favourite experience was with Jarome Iginla. The organizers were really trying to rush people through but he was specifically taking the time to try and talk a little bit with everyone in line and he was just so genuinely kind.

2. What do you think happens when we die?

This is something that I think about and honestly, I don’t really have an answer. I’m unsure what happens. Part of me would like to believe there’s some sort of afterlife or something along those lines but the other part of me also knows that it’s wishful thinking.

3. What’s your favorite action movie?

There are a few action movies I do enjoy, but I think for this, I’m going to say Bon Cop, Bad Cop. It is a hilarious Canadian film about a death that happens on the Ontario-Quebec border and so a by-the-book Ontario cop and a more rogue-ish Quebec cop have to team together to solve the murder. There’s a lot of really obvious allegories to specific NHL teams and people involved (but they obviously couldn’t use the actual names) and some just great jokes about Québécois and Ontario culture respectively.

4. What’s your favorite smell?

I think my favourite smell is probably fresh basil. When I worked at a grocery store, my store used to sell little basil plants and I always appreciated the smell when I’d put them through at the cash. My favourite pasta sauce recipe calls for fresh basil and I always try and get some when I make it for the aroma.

5. Exercise: worth it?

I think exercise is worth it if you are doing something you personally enjoy doing and if you are doing it because you want to, not because you feel some sort of social compulsion to. However, if you’re just exercising because you feel pressured to, I feel like it’s not worth it.
